1893-CC $1 Morgan Silver Dollar NGC MS63
The year 1893 saw the striking of the last Carson City Morgan dollars with the famous "CC" mintmark. David Bowers writes of them that, "surviving pieces are much loved, much desired by numismatists." Silver dollar specialist Wayne Miller writes, "The typical 1893-CC has good luster, with worse than average abrasions, often centered on Liberty's face. Many uncirculated specimens are very poorly struck..."
The 1893-CC is difficult to find in all grades, for the vast majority of them were released into circulation shortly after being produced. David Bowers writes that these coins "are well known for being extensively bag marked, some actually appearing quite abused .... a piece [graded] MS-63 or finer, with minimum bagmarks is a numismatic find and is very special."
This offering from AUCM, graded MS63, with minimum bagmarks, is according to Bowers, “a numismatic find and very special.” NGC has graded 571 as MS63 with 257 finer. Collectors Universe prices this issue at $10,500.00 in MS63.
