1892-S $1 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS XF45 (CAC)
The Morgan dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1892 was among a handful of dates in the series where a vast majority of the coins entered circulation. They were usually well made, with full strikes for which the Western mint was famous. Mint State examples are few, but those survivors are lustrous and well-struck.
The San Francisco Mint struck 1,200,000 of the Morgan dollars in 1892, producing 100,000 pieces each month of that year. There were no known Treasury releases of the 1892-S Morgan dollar from the 1940s through the mid-sixties. David Bowers writes, “In higher circulated grades from EF-40 to AU-58 the 1892-S is readily available today.”
PCGS has graded 1,568 as XF45 with 1,490 finer. In CAC, there are 64 in XF45 with 86 finer.
