1891-CC $10 Liberty Head Eagle NGC AU58
The 1891-CC gold eagle had the greatest mintage at the Carson City Mint of any gold eagle struck with a total of 103,732 specimens. However, many circulated in the Old West, for Westerners balked at utilizing paper money. Many others spent time in bags traveling to and from Europe, which resulted in bag marks and grades in the MS61-MS62 range.
NGC Coin Explorer writes, "MS63 examples are rare, and choice or higher coins are nearly impossible to find." However, this AU58 piece offered by AUCM is pristine and displays little wear, making it an affordable—and very attractive—option for the gold enthusiast.
NGC has graded 601 as AU58 with 1,564 finer. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $3,500.00 in AU58.
