1891-CC $5 Liberty Head Half Eagle PCGS AU58
Here’s a golden treasure from the Carson City Mint to add to your collection. David Akers writes, “The 1891-CC is the most common Half Eagle from the Carson City Mint. It is also much more common than the lower mintage 1891 but, because of the popularity of Carson City coins, the 1891-CC is generally priced higher. The 1891-CC is available in a wide range of grades and there are many choice and even gem quality uncirculated pieces in existence.”

This example has a beautiful look and the legacy of the Old West. It is from the later time of the Carson City mint, for a short two years later the doors of that legendary building were shut forever. Out of its original mintage of 208,000, there have been 2,883 graded by PCGS. Of those there are 542 in AU58 with 1,390 finer. Collector’s Universe prices this issue at $3,500.00 in AU58.
