1880-CC $1 Morgan Silver Dollar, 8 over High 7 PCGS MS66+ (CAC)
Here’s a desirable variety in the ever-popular Morgan dollar series. The 1880-CC $1 Morgan 8 over High 7 refers to a Carson City Morgan dollar, whereby the number "8" in the date is visibly re-punched over a previously struck, higher "7", meaning the original "7" is still partially visible beneath the "8" due to a double-struck error.
Please take a look at the photo below which presents a close-up image of the 1880-CC, 8 over High 7. PCGS has graded 30 of this variety as MS66+ with 12 finer. Collector’s Universe gives this issue a price of $5,250.00 in MS66+. CAC does not list a population for MS66+; however, they do list 38 as MS66. That figure probably includes examples that have graded MS66+.
