1876-CC $20 Liberty Head Double Eagle PCGS XF45
Would you like one great Carson City gold piece to add to your collection? Well, here’s one that would fit the bill! With a mintage of 138,441, the 1876-CC issue is not one of the great rarities in the “CC” double eagle series. Therefore, it is a more affordable option for collectors. PCGS has graded 494 as XF45 with 1,470 finer. Collector’s Universe prices this issue at $5,750.00 in XF45.

During the different gold rushes in the West, and for many years afterwards, paper money was contemptuously derided. That attitude made gold coins important in day-to-day business transactions, and they became the accepted method of payment in the Old West. More than most other Liberty head $20 gold pieces, those from the Carson City Mint remain popular and have grown exponentially in value over the years. Among the reasons for this is the rich history associated with the Old West, the Comstock Lode, and the Carson City Mint.
The mintage of the 1876-CC is a bit higher than the mintage of the 1875-CC but the 1876-CC is a slightly rarer date. In uncirculated condition it is much more rare than the 1875-CC but not as rare as the underrated 1874-CC. The 1876-CC is also more rare in Unc. than the 1883-CC, 1884-CC, 1889-CC, 1890-CC, 1892-CC and 1893-CC. As a date, the 1876-CC is relatively available in VF, EF, or AU condition. Average quality uncs are scarce but do appear from time to time. In choice Unc., the 1876-CC is very scarce and in gem condition it is rare, but certainly not unknown.
