Ron Guth writes in PCGS Coinfacts, “The 1875-CC Half Dollar is semi-scarce, but those two little letters on the reverse (the CC mintmark) add a lot of value.”
According to Rusty Goe, production at the Carson City Mint in 1875 was ramped up as never before. The workers at the Nevada mint had struck around 1.6 million coins in 1874 (with 86 percent being Trade dollars), however in 1875 they managed to produce a little over 7.6 million pieces in the mint’s two coin presses. Of that massive total, the 1875-CC half dollars counted for 13 percent.
Goe estimates that 80 to 100 1875-CC half dollars survive in Mint State plus 200 to 300 in XF to AU grades, with 1,000 to 2,000 examples in total.
