1874-CC $5 Liberty Head Half Eagle NGC AU58
Here is a very rare coin for the specialist in Carson City gold. This attractive specimen is among the finest most collectors will be able to obtain. Very little wear is observed over the high points of the devices, and the fields remain lustrous with original orange-gold coloration. The eye appeal of this piece is exceptional. To acquire a finer example of the 1874-CC Carson City half eagle would be a difficult task indeed. According to Rusty Goe, about 200-250 examples of the 1874-CC $5 Liberty survive today out of its mintage of 21,198. NGC has graded 13 as AU58 with one finer (MS61). PCGS has graded 8 as AU58 with 6 finer. Collectors Universe has priced this issue at $40,000.00 in AU58.
