1874-CC $10 Liberty Head Eagle NGC XF45
This issue is rare, with a limited availability of between 150 and 175 examples, per Doug Winter. NGC has graded 44 as XF45 with 70 finer. Collector’s Universe prices this issue at $14,500.00 in XF45.
“Of the three denominations of gold struck at this mint,” writes Winter in Coinweek (October 30, 2017), “the eagles are the rarest and the most difficult to complete in higher grades. Every date from the 1870s is either unknown or extremely rare in Uncirculated. Even the reasonably available 1874-CC has just two or three known in Uncirculated and it is very rare even in properly graded AU55 to AU58.” Currently, the only uncirculated examples known are one graded MS63 by PCGS and one graded MS65 by NGC.
