1873-CC 50C Liberty Seated Half Dollar, No Arrows PCGS XF40
Helpful PCGS XF40 Price Information:
Collector's Universe: $4,500.
Coin Dealer Newsletter: $2,800.
Here’s a rare piece for the specialist in Carson City silver coinage. The No Arrows version has a mintage of 122,500. These half dollars were all produced before April 1, 1873, when the new weight standard (signified by arrowheads at both sides of the date) went into effect.
Writes Ron Guth in PCGS Coinfacts, “The 1873-CC No Arrows Half Dollar features a mintage almost half that of the 1873-CC With Arrows. However, both versions are scarce, and both are extremely popular because of their source -- the short-lived Western Mint in Carson City.”
PCGS has graded 16 as XF40 with 46 finer. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $4,500.00 in XF40. Guth continues, “The No Arrows version is affordable in some of the lowest grades, but quickly jumps in price in grades of Very Fine or better. In Mint State, this is a solid, five-figure coin because of the small number of survivors.”
