With its mintage of 214,560, the 1873-CC is the more available Carson City Mint issue of the brief Liberty Seated, Arrows half dollar series of 1873 to 1874. However, many were worn out and eventually lost in circulation, while a fair number are impaired. It is quite possible that a significant number of this issue ended up in the China trade, for the Trade dollar was first struck that same year.
PCGS has graded 28 as XF45 with 74 finer. Collectors Universe prices this issue at $3,250.00 in XF45 Arrows. In CAC, there are 5 in XF45 with 7 finer. CAC gives this issue a price of $3,100.00 in XF45 Arrows.
In a "straight-graded" PCGS Choice XF45 holder, with the desirable and valuable green CAC sticker, this offering should be appealing to specialists. In total, PCGS and NGC have graded 782 original pieces. When reviewing the auction records provided by PCGS Coinfacts, we see that between June 2015 and August of 2021 there have been only six examples of the 1873-CC Arrows half dollar in XF45 that sold at auction. None of those six were certified by CAC, as is this offering.
