1872-CC $10 Liberty Head Eagle PCGS XF40
The Carson City Mint struck $10 eagles each year during the 1870s in quite limited amounts. The mintages ranged from a low of 1,762 in 1879 up to 16,767 in 1874. There is just one issue from that decade that is reasonably available—the 1874-CC—and it is extremely rare in mint state.
Only 4,600 Eagles struck in Carson City in 1872
There were only 4,600 eagles struck in 1872 that carry the famous ‘CC’ mintmark—and they are rare in every grade and PCGS has not graded any pieces above AU58. PCGS reports that there are only 75-90 examples know of the 1872-CC Eagle. They have graded 12 specimens as XF40 with 35 finer. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $30,000.00 in XF40.
