BG-1208, 1872 California Fractional Gold $1, Indian Round PCGS MS62 R6-
Very collectible California Fractional housed in the popular PCGS Old Green Label holder!
This variety was struck by C.F. Mohrig, a San Francisco jeweler. The obverse carries a well-crafted Indian head reminiscent more of Civil War tokens than the ubiquitous Indian Head cent of the 1870s. The date 1872 is found below. The Indian is surrounded by 13 stars. The reverse has "CALIFORNIA GOLD" above an attractive, well-designed and engraved wreath. Within the wreath is found "1 DOLLAR TOKEN.” The devices are well-defined and frosty, with attractive red fields, giving this specimen an awesome appearance.
PCGS has graded 5 examples as MS62, with 9 finer. Collectors Universe gives this variety a price of $4,250.00 in MS62. Wouldn’t this piece be a great addition to your Fractional Gold collection?
