BG- 717, 1871 California Fractional Gold 25C, Liberty Octagonal NGC MS65
Here’s a reasonably priced, high-grade example to add to your numismatic holdings. This Liberty head design is from the firm of Frontier & Co., a prolific maker of California fractional gold coins from the 1850s onward. The reverse presents 1/4 DOLLAR 1871 within an attractive wreath. Frontier & Company had their business at 137 Pine Street in San Francisco. Earlier on, they acquired the jewelry firm of the Joseph Brothers, the acknowledged pioneers of the development and creation of California Fractional Gold coinage.
NGC has graded 13 as MS65 with 14 finer. Collector’s Universe prices this issue at $575.00 in MS65.
