Affordable California Fractional Gold variety in Classic PCGS Old Green Holder!
Here’s a dramatic—and affordable—piece to add to your collection of California Fractional Gold coinage, from the jewelry firm of Robert B. Gray and Company of San Francisco. This variety is from Period Two – Jeweler’s issues struck between 1859 and 1882.
PCGS has graded 29 as MS64 with 1 finer. Collectors Universe prices this variety at $475.00 in MS64. A well-crafted Liberty head design, modeled after the federal gold Liberty Head coinage of the time, decorates the obverse. The distinct 'G' mintmark for ‘Gray’ is found below the Liberty Head. The reverse reads, ‘1/4 DOLLAR CAL' within a wreath decorated with berries.
