1870-CC $1 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar NGC AU55
Formerly owned by the M & S Petty Collection, consigned and then sold by Legend Rare Coin Auctions July 2022. It was described as:
A wonderful CHOICE AU example from the first year of coining operations at the Carson City mint. With the discovery of massive amounts of silver in Nevada in the Comstock Lode, a mint was established in Carson City. In the first year, 12,462* silver dollars fell from the dies and most are well circulated; AU coins are very scarce and Mint State coins are rare. A choice AU as here, is a great coin for the collector.
Accents of watery somewhat PL reflection in the fields. Lightly worn surfaces have just the barest trace of friction and the eye appeal is accented by a hint of iridescent gold and pale blue toning. The eye appeal is quite pleasing.
PCGS 39, NGC 28. The most recent example sold for $5,640 in April 2020 and before that one sold for $6,756 in September 2016. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $10,000. We expect anyone looking for a nice 70-CC dollar will delight in this AU55. Cert. Number 1500383 PCGS # 6964
*Note: Redbook reports the original mintage at 11,758 and an AU50 value of $8,500.
