1870 $1 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar PCGS PR63
This coin is NO WHERE near as dark as it appears in the PCGS Trueview photos. The scans we took are more accurate.
The U.S. Mint reported producing 1,000 Proof Liberty Seated Dollars in 1870, however it is uncertain if they actually sold that amount. Nevertheless, the quantity of Proof 1870 Silver Dollars certified by PCGS is consistent with other contemporary dates, suggesting that the total mintage is close to the reported figure.
Writes Ron Guth in PCGS Coinfacts, “This is a great date for type purposes because Proof 1870 Silver Dollars generally come nice and have great eye appeal. A number of high-quality, non-Cameo Proofs are available to collectors.” PCGS has graded 66 as PR63 with 77 finer. Collector’s Universe prices this issue at $4,750.00 in PR63.
