The creation of pattern coins at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia was basically a side business for officers and engravers at the U.S. Mint. Well-heeled numismatists were always in the market for unusual or unique specimens to add to their collections. They had money to spare and mint employees involved in creating coins were happy to oblige.
However, patterns were also created to develop new coins and/or new coin designs for existing series. That was the case with the Two Cent Piece pattern, designed by James B. Longacre, which was struck for circulation from 1864-1872, and in proof only in 1873 for collectors. The year 1863 saw patterns crafted to begin circulation the next year. The difference between this pattern and the regular issues of 1864-1872 is that the ribbon on the pattern reads GOD OUR TRUST and not IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse is also similar to the regular issues. The difference is that the wreaths are not exactly the same, and the word CENTS has a different presentation on the pattern and the regular issues.
Note the motto 'GOD OUR TRUST' on the ribbon above the shield on the obverse. That is one of the elements that makes this pattern issue different from the business strikes of 1864-1872. This is the coin offered by AUCM.
