1859-S $20 Liberty Head Double Eagle, DDO FS-101 PCGS AU58
Important condition rarity DDO variety!
PCGS population of only 3 DDO FS-101 coins in AU58 with 5 finer. Looks GEM-!
PCGS has graded a total of only 13 of the 1859-S DDO FS-101 variety. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to add this rarity to your collection.
Doug Winter writes that this is an example of the “Doubled LIBERTY variety. The ERTY in LIBERTY, as well as some other areas on the obverse, show plain doubling. This variety is plainly visible to the naked eye and I think it is very important. It is very rare in Uncirculated (I have seen just two, one in MS60 and one in MS61) and a few in the higher AU grades. Less than 5% of all 1859-S double eagles are this variety.”
