1858/7 1C Flying Eagle Cent, Overdate FS-301 PCGS MS63 (CAC)
Greatly desired variety and key date of the series!
According to the PCGS population report, this specific variety (FS-301) has 3 in MS63, with just 3 finer. In CAC, there are 5 in MS63 with 16 finer (in all 1858/7 varieties). Writes Heritage, "The 1858/7 overdate is the only Flying Eagle cent die variety listed in the Guide Book. Aside from the 1856, which is technically a pattern, the overdate is the key to the series."

Ron Guth writes in PCGS Coinfacts: "The 1858/7 Flying Eagle Cent is the only overdate in this short-lived series; hence, it garners a lot of attention. The overdate is very subtle and can be overlooked easily, especially since the undertype begins to disappear on later die states. Look for the right tip of a 7 on the right side of the top of the second 8. Another identifier is a small, raised chip in the obverse field midway between the date and the eagle's underbelly. Finally, look for a broken wingtip just below the F in OF."
