1855-O G$1 Indian Princess Gold Dollar PCGS XF45 (CAC)
Here is an excellent opportunity to acquire a very popular issue at a more affordable price. The mintage of the 1855-O is 55,000—less than ten percent of the Philadelphia Mint’s production of the gold dollar that same year.
The 1855-O is the most popular New Orleans Mint gold dollar, as it is the only issue from that famous mint that carries the ever-popular Indian Princess (or “Type Two”) design that was employed from 1854 to 1856. It is also a popular issue with gold specialists and collectors due to its status as the final gold dollar struck in New Orleans. Writes gold specialist Doug Winter, “The 1855-O’s status as a one-year type makes it popular with a collector base of gold dollar collectors, type collectors, New Orleans specialists and collectors who like interesting coins.”
PCGS has graded 52 specimens as XF45 with 337 finer. Collectors Universe prices this issue at $2,000.00 in XF45. In CAC, there are 17 in XF45 with 72 finer. CAC gives this issue a price of $2,120.00.
