1855 Gold 25C Liberty Head Round, Rarity-5.
- Period One - circulating issues between 1852 and 1856.
- Redbook Type: Small Liberty Head / Value & Date in Wreath.
- Made by Antoine Louis Nouizillet.
Obverse: 8 beads on coronet differently set (2-3-3) than on BG-227 ‘broken nose’; 1st, 4th, and 10th stars not double punched. Heavily clashed. No obverse die cracks. Stars are further away from denticles than on BG-227
Reverse: 1-4 DOLLAR 1855 inside of wreath. Die cracks at 12:30, 5:30, 9:00 & 11:30.
Previously Breen-Gillio BG-227 Die State-2. Important: This is not BG-227-2. Reported in Brasher Bulletin, Vol.5,#1, p.8, by Jack Totheroh. There is an early die state of BG-227W without ‘broken nose’ which was lost in the robbery of September 1993.
PCGS did not differentiate BG-227 from BG-226A until 1997. Unless the coin can be viewed it is unknown as to which it is. Formerly BG-227W.
