The obverse displays a coroneted Liberty head facing left, encircled by 10 stars. At the rim of the reverse is found 'CALIFORNIA ★★ GOLD.' The FD mint mark--for Frontier-Deviercy--is at the bottom of the reverse. Within a beaded circle is '1 DOLLAR 1853.' NGC has graded 31 examples of this issue. There is one in MS62+ with 5 finer. PCGS has graded 105 of the BG-505. Of those, there are 0 in MS62+ with 8 finer.
