Around the beaded circle at the rim is ‘CALIFORNIA GOLD - DERI.’ 'DERI' is short for M. Deriberpie, a private engraver who had a shop at 58 Kearny Street in San Francisco. He also cut dies for the jewelers Nouzillet & Routhier.
