1852-O $2.50 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle PCGS AU58 (CAC)
Here’s a well struck, attractive piece to add to your collection. And it is a more affordable option in its AU58 grade, for the finest known at PCGS is MS63 with a quite dramatic jump in price at that level.
David Akers writes, “As the much higher mintage indicates, the 1852-O is substantially more common as a date than the 1852-C or the 1852-D. However, choice condition specimens are very nearly as rare … the 1852-O is anything but common in uncirculated condition. Generally seen more sharply struck than the 1852-C or 1852-D, but of course, the New Orleans Mint usually did make higher quality coins than its southern counterparts in Georgia and North Carolina.”
PCGS has graded 31 as AU58 with 24 finer. Collectors Universe prices this issue at $2,500.00 in AU58. In CAC, there are 21 in AU58 with 9 finer. CAC gives the 1852-O $2.50 a price of $2,700.00 in AU58.
