1852 $5 Liberty Head Half Eagle PCGS MS62 (CAC) Ex.The Fairmont Collection
It is rare for No Motto Liberty head half eagles to be found in grades above MS63. This includes even the most plentiful issues. This current offering from AUCM, the 1852, is a prime example of that. Its mintage is over half a million pieces, however there are only three specimens graded and certified finer than MS64 at PCGS and NGC combined. The average certified grade for the 1852 $5 is less than AU55. PCGS has graded 48 as MS62 with 38 finer. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $4,000.00. In CAC, there are 9 in MS62 with 9 finer.

Here’s an exciting collecting option to consider. The Liberty Head half eagles were the only US coins to be produced at every one of our mints. How about considering creating a type set of these $5 gold pieces? It would be fun and interesting to take the time to put together a set of Liberty Head half eagles by acquiring one each that was produced in Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dahlonega, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carson City, and Denver. Imagine putting together that special set of seven gold coins from those seven historic US mints. Wouldn’t that be a rewarding achievement? And the perfect piece from the Philadelphia Mint is being offered by AUCM, waiting for you to claim as your own.
