This is an impressive variety among Liberty Head double eagles, one that shows the date--all four digits--dramatically repunched north. FS-301 is among the more visually impressive repunched date varieties in the entire series. Adding even more interest to this piece is a die crack that begins in the left field and connects the bottom of '1852.' This is a rare variety. Out of over 2,000,000 pieces struck in 1852, only 103 have been certified as FS-301 by NGC. Of those, there are 28 in AU55 with just 13 finer. In fact, none is graded above MS61, making this offering from AUCM among the better grades available to collectors.
