On the second salvage attempt, only an additional TWO (2) were brought up from the depths, making the total only 62. Such a remarkable quantity of PIONEER GOLD being recovered in the first salvage attempt has led experts to conclude this group was sent together for some unknown purpose, perhaps to be assayed by the US Mint upon receipt in Philadelphia.
