1849-D G$1 Liberty Head Gold Dollar NGC AU58
Historic and desirable first year issue from the Dahlonega Mint!
Take advantage of this opportunity to acquire a relic of both the California Gold Rush and the Dahlonega Mint! The Gold $1 Liberty was produced due to the discovery of gold in California, and 1849 was the first year of this series. NGC has graded 93 as AU58 with 127 finer. Collectors Universe gives this issue a price of $6,500.00 in AU58.

Jeff Garrett writes, “Although this date is the most common Type 1 gold dollar from the Dahlonega Mint, demand from type collectors has made it popular in any grade. The mintage [of 21,588] is relatively small, but many were undoubtedly saved as first-year-of-issue souvenirs. … Even though many were saved as first year of issue, high-grade examples are very rare. Only a couple survive that could be classified as Gems. The Mint State coins seen are usually MS 61 or MS 62. Most coins that are seen, however are well worn, with the average coin being Very Fine or Extremely Fine.” Therefore, this attractive AU58 offering from AU Capital Management could be considered a “high grade” example of this popular issue.
