Ex. Heritage Jan 2018, lot 6679 where it was described as "...Period after ALLOY. These unassuming five dollar gold pieces have the distinction of being the first privately minted coins for circulation in Gold Rush-era California, produced by Norris, Gregg, & Norris in May 1849. This Reeded Edge example enjoys original reddish-gold color and the faintest traces of luster around the eagle. Both sides are abraded and lightly worn, but this does not detract from its appeal or historical import. Housed in a green label holder. Listed on page 394 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 11 in 40, 35 finer (11/17)."
