The year 1847 saw the mintage for Eagles from the New Orleans Mint reach a surprising 571,500 pieces. This is more than double of the second highest mintage for Eagles from the Southern mint, which was 263,000 in 1851. Therefore, the 1847-O is the most common No Motto Eagle from New Orleans.
Writes Doug Winter, “it becomes progressively harder to find in higher grades and is actually quite rare in Uncirculated.” This attractive honey-golden example is offered at an affordable price by AUCM. PCGS has graded 3 specimens as F15 with 874 finer. Collectors Universe prices this issue at $1,350.00 in F15.
