Struck at the Munich mint, KM20, Dav-115 varieties. NGC Census of 3 coins; 7 finer. Most silver Greek coins struck in the 1840s are major rarities as they were heavily circulated in the formative yeaars. This splendid specimen benefits from an amazingly sharp prooflike strike with crisp devices, clearly outlined and standing in strong relief against the lower regions. Satiny throughout the surfaces, with touches of burnt-sienna, russet tone at the centers. American collector John Jay Pittman selected one of these Types to add to his vast coin collection. David Akers, the cataloguer of his infamous collection, described Pittman's NGC MS65 as "one of the prettiest silver crowns in the Pittman Collection." It fetched the princely sum of $18,000 (hammer) in 1989.
Ex. CICF, Rarcoa:1116. March 15-16, 1985.
