1799 $10 Draped Bust Eagle, Large Stars Obverse BD-10 NGC MS63
Exceptional quality. Along with the 1801, the 1799 is the most frequently seen of the seven Capped Bust Right, Heraldic Eagle ten dollar gold issues. Examples are usually obtainable for a price in all grades up to and including Brilliant Uncirculated. Attractive, minimally marked representatives such as this one are quite scarce, especially when compared to the number of high quality gold collectors in today's hobby. This is an exceptionally well produced coin for the early Philadelphia Mint. The fields are bright and have a semi-reflective sheen with almost complete definition on each side. There are no singularly mentionable or detracting blemishes on the obverse or reverse, and as seen on many early gold coins the original green-gold coloration has taken on a light overlay of reddish-coppery patina. Originally from the Greenwich Collection.
