1796 1C Draped Bust Large Cent, Reverse of 1795 (S-93) PCGS MS64BN (CAC) Ex. Rawls
1796 S-93 R3 Draped Bust. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. CAC Approved. Choice glossy uniform medium chocolate brown with peeps of lighter reddish brown faded down from mint red in protected areas on both sides. A gorgeous large cent, called an "Incredible Gem" by Dr. Ralls and "One of the Great Large Cents" by Del Bland. The only marks are so trivial as to be hardly worthy of mention, but a thin diagonal planchet void just left of the eye can help identify this cent. MDS, Breen state VI, with an irregular cud break at CA in AMERICA and a very thick die crack connecting the tops of RIC. Called MS60 and tied for CC#3 honors in the Bland census; Noyes photo #24081. This coin comes with an impressive provenance. The attribution and Ralls provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer. The only MS example graded by PCGS for the variety.
