1793 1C Chain, AMERICA, Sheldon-3 variety, B-4, PCGS Fine 15. Breen Die State I. The early, clash-free die state of the popular "Leaning R" variety. The R in LIBERTY is high and leans right. The introductory Chain type was quickly replaced by the more available Wreath design, likely because of public misinterpretation of the Chain motif. The chain symbolized strength in unity, but others saw it as a sign of slavery or imprisonment.
This is HEAD-AND-SHOULDERS above the REST of those coins in the Fine to Very Fine grades! It is in a class of it's own! This remarkable specimen exhibits chocolate-brown surfaces and is clearly sharper than most survivors. More importantly, it is free from corrosion aside from a single small spot at the obverse center. All legends are bold and Liberty's hair detail is substantial. Several thin marks do not deny the eye appeal. Certified in a green label holder.
