Here’s a rare Spanish Cob Type from the reign of Philip IV of Spain. Struck with 0.917 pure gold, this 2 Escudos was struck at the Royal Spanish Mint at Seville. NGC has graded 1 example of this series as AU58 with only 1 finer. The obverse of this classic piece presents a crowned shield with Latin script: PHILIPPVS IIII D G II R. Upon the reverse is found the Jerusalem cross within a quatrefoil. Latin script: HISPANIARVM REX 1623.
